British Archery Postal League (BAPL)
IFAC participates in the annual UK-wide BA Postal League ‘Portsmouth’ and ‘Frostbite’ competitions.
The competitions are held throughout the winter months, with a round shot each month from November to March inclusive.
Each round of each competition is divided into ‘ends’. After each end, the competitors walk to the target to score and retrieve their arrows. A detailed description of the scoring process (with diagram) is available here.
Each round for the two competitions is as follows:
‘PORTSMOUTH’- 60 arrows (20 ends of 3 arrows preceded by 2 practice ends) shot at 20 yard range, indoors at a 60cm ‘Portsmouth’ target
face. Inner 10 ring scoring for Compounds and Standard 10 ring scoring for Recurves. Maximum score 600.
‘FROSTBITE’- 36 arrows (12 ends of 3 arrows preceded by 2 practice ends) shot at 30 metres range, outdoors at an 80cm ‘Portsmouth’
target face. Standard 10 ring scoring for both Compounds and Recurves. Maximum score 360.
IFAC enters the following teams into the BA Postal League:
COMPOUNDS:2 Teams of 2 Archers in the Portsmouth (Teams A and B)
2 Teams of 2 Archers in the Frostbite (Teams A and B)
RECURVES:1 Team of 5 Archers in the Portsmouth
1 Team of 5 Archers in the Frostbite
In each competition, all the participating clubs are split into Divisions of 6 teams.
The placements in the league divisions are based on the performance of each team during the previous year’s competitions.
Just as in football, Division 1 has the highest performance teams, and Division 40 would contain the teams with a significantly lower performance.
The number of Divisions multiplied by 6 teams (per Division) gives the total number of teams participating.
Latest results can be found on the .pdf document available from the BAPL website here.
IFAC are currently in the following Divisions:
Compound Frostbite - Division 4 (Team A) and Division 11 (Team B)
Compound Portsmouth - Division 10 (Team A) and Division 22 (Team B)
Compound Team B's M Hodinott was November 08's Highest Scoring Lady in both the Frostbite and Portsmouth Divisions! (11 and 22)
Recurve Frostbite - Division 30
Recurve Portsmouth - Division 41
Pin Badges are presented by BAPL to the winners of each league: Portsmouth Compound, Portsmouth Recurve, Frostbite Compound and Frostbite Recurve.
IFAC also presents personal achievement pin badges for individual archers who achieve certain breakpoint scores in each competition, as follows:
PORTSMOUTH: 300 350 400 450 500 525 550 575 580 585 590 595 600

IFAC Club Trophies & Handicap
IFAC's Club trophies are based on the scores for the Portsmouth rounds.
A minimum of 3 Portsmouth Rounds must be shot from November to February, together with the final Portsmouth in March, in order to
be entered into the Club Championship.
The Portsmouth scores are also used to determine an archer's handicap score for the following year.
